When growing in a small town in the province, where getting into university is considered your only option for a ”good” future, saying that ”I will go to Athens and study Fashion” certainly makes you a utopioan, if not crazy.
Quickly, everyone who tried to reason with me realized that I was not joking at all, so I managed to get into the Sociology department of Panteion University, so that my family would stop worrying so much, and my enrollement in Fashion Workshop by Vicky Kaya was the realization of my wildest fantasies since I was a kid.
Many dared to question whether one year is enough to understand the deep and complex world of fashion. This time, however, was a constant barrage of knowledge, our chance to keep in touch with leading personalities and participate in real projects not only provided us with knowledge regarding fashion, but mostly we learned how real professionals act, how hard the world of fashion is and that your most major reward is the satisfaction at the end of the day.
Pressure, satisfaction, crying, anxiety, joy, anguish and the sense of accomplishment I felt when finally getting my degree, made me realize that one year at Fashion Workshop by Vicky Kaya taught me not only the history of Fashion but gave me something that few possess at seventeen, the awareness of who I really am, and where I belong.
